"Tangerines and Spices" Interdisciplinary Residency for Writers and Illustrators
Aim
Fairy tales are very popular throughout the South Caucasus, so the residency aims to encourage writers to write new ones. Creating new fairy tales provides an opportunity to reflect on current events and motivates children to learn about new stories and literary characters from different countries/regions. In this way, the distance between the mythical and the real can be diminished, and even the invisible boundaries can dissolve as they enjoy each other's stories, pains, and joys.
The residency will focus on starting work on a collection that will include fairy tales from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, including conflict-affected regions. Work on the collection will be in two phases. Participants start creating fairy tales during the residency. At the end of the residency, the authors of the fairy tales selected for the collection have five months to complete the work and prepare it for publication.
The fairy tales written in the respective languages will be illustrated and translated into foreign languages (English, German) to make them accessible to a wider audience and present them at various international book fairs and cultural spaces.
