The Ghana Poetry Experience is a 3-day poetry event that will bring together poets and spoken word artists to engage in workshops and networking sessions. On the third day, the experience will be crowned with a contest where the selected participants will battle it out for the top three prizes.
The Ghana Poetry Experience is platform for early to mid-career poetry and spoken word artists to share and enhance their work through workshops and networking sessions. The closing event will be great opportunity to boost and encourage the works of the participants.
The application is open from the 18th of February to the 07th of March 2025. An external jury working closely with the Goethe-Institut will make the final selection of the 12 participants. Selected participants will be notified by the 5th of April 2025. The 3-day event will take place at the Goethe-Institut from the 15th of May 2025 to the 17th of May 2025.
The following criteria apply to the call for applications. Please read them carefully before completing the application form. We do not accept applications via email.
Eligibility Criteria and FAQ
The call is open to Ghanaian poets and spoken word artists living in Ghana. Non-Ghanaian poets and spoken word artistes who currently live and work in Ghana.
Applicants must be between 20 and 30 years old.
Poets and spoken word artists who live outside of Accra are also encouraged to apply. The project will cater for stay and transportation (STC/VIP bus) to Accra and back for this event for up to 4 participants once selected.
Applicants should fill the application form and click on submit to ensure their application is successful.
Goethe-Institut will cover snacks and lunch for participants during the three-day event.
Selected participants who live outside Accra will be offered transportation event as well as accommodation in Accra to and from Accra for the duration of the event.
For participants residing in Accra, Goethe-Institut will not be covering transportation costs to event.
Working with an external jury, the selection will be done based on the criteria in the forms as well as the quality of work submitted.
Yes, participants are expected to be available for all scheduled activities and to commit fully.
On the third and final day, the 12 participants will compete in a poetry and spoken word performance to a live audience. The competition is set to test out their talent and how their workshops and interactions have benefited them. The first prize winner will take home 5000GH with other cash prizes also available for the second and third prize winners.
