Noisy Words

Noisy Words is a multimodal festival of sound, noise and words, curated by Εvi Νakou. Through a series of workshops, performances, gigs and conversations, we will explore together the noisy spaces we inhabit, the noise between our bodies; a space of twisting, bending and distorting sounds and language. Noisy Words creates an opening to listen, play, speak, whisper, noisy words and sounds however piercing or soft, fast or slow, warped, rumbling or buzzing.

Noisy Writings ist ein viertägiger Workshop zum Improvisieren, Schreiben, Umschreiben, Schneiden und Einfügen, Verzerren und Aufführen von Text und Klang, geleitet von den Künstler:innen und Kurator:innen Antye Greie-Ripatti (AGF) und Cedrik Fermont (C-drik). Durch das Lernen und Verlernen von Wegen, Worte durch Klang zu schreiben und klingen zu lassen und umgekehrt, bietet dieser Workshop Raum und Zeit, um sowohl kollektiv als auch individuell nicht-lineare und fragmentierte Wege des Komponierens mit elektronischem Klang, sprechender und singender Stimme, Alltagsgegenständen und Körpern zu erkunden. In diesem praxisorientierten Workshop werden die teilnehmenden Künstler:innen gemeinsam als Gruppe improvisieren und entdecken, wie sie Klänge schreiben und Worte klingen lassen können.

Ein kurzer Text darüber, was Sie von diesem Workshop und dieser Lernerfahrung lernen, erkunden, verbessern und mitnehmen möchten (max. 300 Wörter)

Beteiligte

Evi Nakou is a musician, sound artist. Her practice is a hotchpotch of listening and sharing gestures of sound, text, and performance. Her work explores proximity and intimacy within situated stories in an improvised and semi-structured manner – stories often untold, unheard or erased. Evi is a co-founder of the music ensemble Breakfast Club quartet.

She has collaborated with organizations such as the Barbican Centre, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Women for Refugee Women, Melissa Network, Goethe-Insitut Athen, New York Philharmonic, CTM Festival, Greek National Opera, Athens Epidaurus Festival, Deutsche Oper Berlin, and Onassis Stegi, on the basis of conceiving and facilitating context-led pedagogies and performing arts practices.

She has curated and facilitated workshops on music and sound improvisation and collaborative composition with people from diverse backgrounds and life paths, locally and internationally, namely Beit AlMusica in Palestine, La Sonora in Argentina, and Drum Works in the United Kingdom, as well as the Korydallos Prison Complex, the Organization Against Drugs (OKANA), various schools, and hospice, health care, and detention facilities in Attica, Greece.

Evi is a graduate of the Department of Music Studies of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (MMus Leadership). She is a PhD candidate at the University of Thessaly and an Onassis AiR fellow.
Cedrik Fermont aka C-drík aka Kirdec is a composer, musician, mastering engineer, author, radio host and concert promoter who has been working in the fields of noise, electronic and electroacoustic music since 1989. His compositions and installations vary from sound art and electroacoustic to noise to industrial to more conventional “dance” music. He was born in Zaire (DR Congo), grew up in Belgium and now lives in Berlin. He studied electroacoustic music in Belgium with Annette Vande Gorne. Cedrik Fermont has been active internationally since 1989 in various musical projects such as Črno Klank, Axiome and Tasjiil Moujahed as well as a solo artist. He has collaborated with several musicians of the free improvisation scene, especially in Asia, Africa and the Americas. Cedrik Fermont is the founder of Syrphe, an online platform for alternative musicians from Asia and Africa.

Antye Greie-Ripatti is a digital songwriter, sound artist and curator, composer, poet, feminist networker. She is also known as AGF, Laub, and poemproducer. Born in 1969, and raised in East Germany, she has lived and worked in Hailuoto, Finland since 2008. She works with language, sound, listening, voice, and communication, expressed in mixed media, audiovisual live performances, digital communication, sound installations, commissions for radio, movies and theater, exhibitions and conceptual works. Greie-Ripatti has released 30 long player records, and has been engaged in numerous collaborations under such aliases as AGF, AGF/Delay (with Vladislav Delay), Greie Gut Fraktion (with Gudrun Gut), and The Lappetites (with Kaffe Matthews and Eliane Radigue), among them – for a long term – with the award-winning classical composer Craig Armstrong.

She runs the production company and music label AGF Producktion and has produced records for other artists, most famously for Ellen Allien (Sool, 2009, BPitch). In 2011, Greie-Ripatti founded the arts organization Hai Art in Hailuoto, where she serves as artistic director, executive producer, and workshop leader. Hai Art has organized a conference on remote art, more than ten artist-in-residencies, extensive sound program with children in Hailuoto, the iPad Orchestra Hailuoto, the Organum, the Hailuoto (mini) MediaLAB, and numerous artists camps. Since 2011 she works as independent sound curator.

PÖ released her debut album “Cociage” under the label Hakuna Kulala in March 2023. A universe filled with tracks that range from ghostly ambient to post punk polyphonies. An expression of the darker and more introspective side of her and a statement of independence and multiplicity that evokes her own identity.
