Service for librarians
The Goethe-Institut Nairobi library department works closely with local partners to improve the local librarianship landscape. Together with our partners, we seek to improve professional outcomes for libraries as well as library and information science professionals in Kenya. We achieve this objective by organizing capacity building initiatives, seminars, conferences and trainings for librarians.
We also organize study tours for Kenyan librarians to Germany in order to expose them to international practices in librarianship. We seek to enhance networking and experience sharing among library professionals in Kenya. Additionally, we provide stocking support to libraries in public schools and community libraries. We work closely with our partners to support programmes that enhance literary, information and media competence, online safety tips etc. among local communities. We also donate German language media to university libraries that offer German language courses.
Our partners include Start A Library fund, Kenya Library Association(KLA), Kenya National Library Services( KNLS), Key libraries, Ministry of Youth affairs, sports and the Arts, National museums of Kenya and many more.
