What are the technical requirements for online classes?

For an optimal learning experience, you need a Windows or Mac desktop computer or laptop. We do not recommend tablets, iPads, smartphones or other mobile equipment for this course, although it is possible to use them. You need a headset with microphone. If you use the built-in speakers and microphone on your laptop, it might cause an echo for the other participants in the online classrooms.

Will I get a certificate at the end of my class?

All students who attend at least 70% of their classes, and (for courses with an online component) complete at least 70% of their assignments will receive a certificate of participation for their course. Also, we prepare and encourage you to sign up for one of our official Goethe-Zertifikat exams, which will provide you with an internationally-recognised certificate to prove your language abilities. Our Online Group Course is for everyone, who would like to learn German independently without losing the feeling of being part of a group. All four skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening) will be trained. The course takes place on the online learning platform of the Goethe-Institut and in a virtual classroom.

Test your german
You would like to attend one of our German courses for the first time, but you can already speak German? In this case you have to take a placement test before enrolling. This test will help us evaluate your German skills, define a learning objective together with you and choose a suitable course for you.

How the course works

Learning Platform
The Online Group Courses address various topics from our everyday life, so as to familiarize you with important vocabulary and grammar. You learn by using an interactive study programme comprising videos, pictures, audios and texts. You will decide your study time individually but you will also have the chance to work in groups. You will also have the opportunity to download essential overviews on grammar and vocabulary.

Support from your teacher
Longer writing exercises will be marked by our teachers who will also provide individual feedback on your written piece. In case you have any questions on the correction, you are free to contact your teacher directly in the forum or by email.

Online Live Sessions
You meet your teacher and fellow students every two weeks in a virtual classroom. The live sessions will either take place on Friday evening, on Saturday or Sunday. During the live sessions you will have the chance to practise your spoken German.
