In the architecture of Arab cities, the impact of modernism is visible through concrete examples. The Goethe-Institut Palestinian Territories, together with Dr. George Arbid (Beirut) and Prof. Dr. Philipp Oswalt (Berlin), both experts in historiographical architectural research of modernism, embarked on a search for traces since 2019. The regional book project, funded by the German Federal Foreign Office, was published in Arabic and English.
AL-GHUSSEIN-HAUS
The Al-Ghussein House is a historic building in the heart of the Gaza Strip and a remarkable example of late Ottoman architecture in the Palestinian territories. In 2020, the Goethe-Institut Ramallah initiated the reconstruction of the historic landmark to preserve it as an outstanding example of Gaza's cultural and architectural heritage. Now the restoration is complete and a new cultural center is being built.
