Introduction:
Mishkal Project invites you to apply for production grants to participate in the inaugural edition of Ramallah Design Week 2026, where the timeless beauty of Palestinian cultural heritage meets the modern designs of the future.This inaugural design week will focus on the deeply rooted Palestinian traditions, empowering emerging and professional designers to reimagine and reinvent the past through innovative and sustainable designs. This unique opportunity is a platform to showcase works that combine authenticity and creativity and emphasizes the Palestinian identity in innovative and impactful ways.
The selected projects will be part of a cultural event that reflects how spectacular the Palestinian heritage is, showcasing the power of design in shaping the future. Through this transformative open call, we invite you to contribute to the celebration of Palestinian design by merging contemporary creativity with heritage craftsmanship, inspiring future generations, and bridging our rich heritage and future aspirations.
We are seeking designs that are innovative, unprecedented, and that explore unexplored intersections of culture and design. Whether by using cutting-edge technologies, collaborative efforts, or new forms of artistic expression, we invite submissions that push the boundaries of traditional interpretations and present fresh, dynamic approaches to Palestinian heritage.
Mishkal aims to promote art and culture as a means of preserving Palestinian cultural heritage, strengthening cultural identity, and supporting entrepreneurs and creatives in the fields of art and culture throughout Palestine.
The MISHKAL "Perform, Produce, Design" project is funded by the European Union and managed by the Goethe-Institut and the British Council in Palestine.

We encourage submissions from Palestinian designers and those who hold a deep connection to Palestine's culture. We welcome creative innovators from all backgrounds who are passionate about empowering Palestinian craftsmanship and the design community. The open call is open to:

We encourage submissions from Palestinian designers and those who hold a deep connection to Palestine's culture. We welcome creative innovators from all backgrounds who are passionate about empowering Palestinian craftsmanship and the design community. The open call is open to:
- Emerging and established Palestinian designers (local and from the diaspora).
- Artisans with expertise in traditional Palestinian techniques (embroidery, pottery, glassblowing, olive wood carving, etc.).
- Students, start-ups, cultural entrepreneurs, and creatives in design, art, and culture.
- International designers in collaborating with Palestinian peers and interested in fostering partnerships with Palestinian artisans and creatives.
- Artisans and craftspeople with a focus on traditional Palestinian techniques.
- Academic institutions specializing in design, art, and cultural studies.
This is an opportunity to blend local traditions with global perspectives, creating a dialogue between cultures and empowering sustainable design practices.
- Production Grants: We believe in turning concepts into reality. Mishkal will award up to 30 grants between €4,000 and €9,000 to fund your designs.
- Mentorship Opportunities: Benefit from one-on-one sessions with Palestinian diaspora designers, leading international experts, and design pioneers.
- Capacity Building: Develop your skills in sustainable design, entrepreneurship, and marketing through workshops and hands-on training.
- Networking & Collaboration: Engage with a global community of designers, artisans, and cultural leaders.
- Global Exposure: Your work will be showcased across physical and digital platforms, with exhibitions in Ramallah, pop-up displays, talks, and collaborative projects.
- Hybrid & Physical Platforms: Experience the hybrid and physical exposure of your work, presented through exhibitions, live installations, and interactive workshops.
- Creative projects outside Palestine.
- Funding international travel or accommodation for participants.
- Projects or initiatives already funded or led by academic institutions.
- All applications must be submitted through our online portal. Please visit the provided link to apply.
- Submissions will be accepted in Arabic or English.
- Ensure that all sections of the application are completed. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
- If applying as a collective or organization, submit only one application per group.
- Successful applicants will be notified, and the results will be publicly announced on our social media platforms.
Your submission will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Eligibility: Does your application meet the core requirements outlined in this open call?
- Feasibility: Is the proposal clearly defined and actionable?
- Creativity and Innovation: Does the project present a fresh and innovative approach to Palestinian cultural heritage?
- Quality: How well does your design represent a creative evolution of traditional forms?
- Sustainability: Does your project integrate eco-friendly practices or sustainability principles in its development?
- Budget: Does the budget provided meet your need and is realistic?
- Timeline: Is it achievable within the provided timeline?
- Location: The project must take place within the West Bank, Gaza, or Jerusalem.
- Cultural Heritage: The project should reflect the cultural heritage of Palestine, either in tangible forms (e.g., crafts, architecture) or intangible forms (e.g., oral traditions, practices).
- Impact: The project must benefit local artists and contribute to fostering a creative economy in the region.
- Capacity Development: The grantee is required to participate in the capacity development track from May 2025 to July 2026.
- Exclusivity: The project must not have been used or exhibited in other festivals or exhibitions prior to this submission.
Grants can support a variety of project expenses, including (but not limited to):
- Design and prototype development
- Materials and tools for production
- Artist collaboration fees
- Workshop or exhibition costs
- Marketing and promotion
