If you could shape the future by rediscovering the past – what would you see?
Rwanda and other African nations still feel the effects of colonialism and postcolonial structures are an ongoing reality. None of us is able to change the past, but we can all learn from it in order to build a better future.
Eric 1key (RW),
Angell Mutoni (RW),
Yule (GER),
Checkmate Mido (KE) and
Kevin Munyi (KE) are coming together to look for the prints of a forgotten future and to explore ways of how to rediscover and re-imagine our past, our identities and our world. During an evening at Goethe-Institut Kigali, they – together with other emerging and established artists – will share the results of a two-day workshop on Afrofuturism.
Much of Afrofuturism borrows from the past to define the future. It is a portal through which we can explore spirituality, technology and build new worlds. It is not just based on science fiction, but it is also about imagining different spaces of creative thought that does not put our identities in a box.
If you could shape the future by using your imagination – what would you do?
Come join us for an evening of Poetry, Spoken Word, Hip Hop & Beat-boxing and listen to the words and sounds of our future!
If you are interested in participating in the workshop, please contact Lena Wassermeier for more information: assistant-kigali@goethe.de.
