Natur & Urbanität
The Places

The critical research residency begins with two weeks in Manila, where the participants are engaged in a programme that explores the interweaving of nature, culture, and urbanity specific to the particular geopolitical rhythms of the city. The programme includes intensive workshop sessions with mentors coming from the intersections of art, humanities, and social sciences, as well as site visits to key cultural places of interest in Manila, along with other unique locations such as the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant and the Viva Excon Capiz  2018.

The programme then moves to Singapore, where the idea of digital transformation will be further explored and engaged with. There, participants take part in guided tours and site visits at locations ranging from institutions and places of interest operating directly out of the crossroads of art and technology, such as the ArtScience Museum and Gardens by the Bay, to other areas of local culture in which the impact of the increasing digitisation of life is much subtler and sometimes overlooked, such as in the ubiquitous network of Chinese temples and the archipelago of smaller islands surrounding the main island.
