The reclamation of public spaces for cultural events and the stimulation of civil society discourse through events is the aim of the NEXT LEVEL Programs Jeenak. In different country cities, especially outside the capital Khartoum, the program stimulates cultural exchange and is curated by a Sudanese artist collective. The events took place partly in online formats and physically in Khartoum, Al-Obayed, Dunqula, Shandi, Karima, AlFashir, and Ad-Damazin.
The start of Jeenak 2021 made Hazem Ash-Shafei with his music compositions from jazz harmonic and Sudanese melodies and has been one of the favorites of the online community with over 10,000 clicks. In spring, the Roots Group, one of the youngest bands in the country, presented their reggae underground music from Al-Obayed. In May, the Karima Group presented the legacy of the northern Shaigia, Manasir and Dhidab areas to a broad digital audience. Further highlights took place with the dance group of the village Swillnga near the city of Al-Fashir in North Darfur and with the dances and chants about tolerance, happiness, and the beautiful spirit of the Kalash and Waza in the Blue Nile region.
Our Summer 2021 ended with a Cinema Week: selected Sudanese films were shown on a giant animation screen in various areas of the capital Khartoum, in Elhaj-Yousif, Ombda, Karari, Mayo, and Khartoum-South.
