As a young, dedicated woman, the fashion designer Nafisa Hafez would like to put her country more in the international fashion industry spotlight.

In her fashion film The Unexplored, Nafisa Hafez wants to connect traditional Sudanese culture with the global fashion industry. The collection, specially designed for the shooting, is primarily inspired by the nomadic tribes in western Sudan. In the film she shows a slightly modified, but modern version of the clothes and bags, which, artistically, are meant to abstractly reflect the nomad tribes’ ways of life. In order to project the representation and journey of the nomads as authentically as possible, the film was shot in rural areas of Darfur in the west of the country.

Due to the ongoing quarantine measures and the associated travel and exit restrictions, the shooting had to be postponed for several months and could not be completed until November 2020. The fashion designer nevertheless took the opportunity to develop and expand the concept.

With her film, Nafisa would like to show how very much modern design is compatible with culture and its influences. Traditions do not have to stand in the way of this. After completion, the video will be shown at international fashion film weeks to draw attention to the sector of fashion and design in Sudan.
