The United Nations created the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as an urgent call for action and a shared blueprint for promoting prosperity while protecting the planet. To assist in reaching these goals by 2030, the Goethe-Institut is actively working towards a better and more sustainable future, where all people enjoy equal rights and our natural resources are protected for future generations.

Our Sustainable Future

Our Sustainable Future (OSF) is an annual sustainability competition open to high school students. Its goal is to encourage innovation and inspire the next generation of climate leaders.

GEMs

The German Educational Multipliers (GEMs) are a group of experienced and creative educators of German who foster excellence in teaching and community engagement.

TOP

The Transatlantic Outreach Program (TOP) promotes knowledge about Germany's commitment to sustainability in American social studies and STEM classrooms.

Exploring STEM in Germany

Exploring STEM in Germany

Exploring STEM in Germany is a new TOP website with resources for teaching about environmental topics. Through the storyline of a class trip to four locations in Germany, students will have the opportunity to explore sustainability, renewable energy, climate change, and ecosystems. At each stop, a companion reader will give students more insight into each topic. They will also engage in various hands-on activities to discover STEM in Germany. This curriculum is intended for middle school STEM educators but can be adapted to fit many grades, ages, and learning outcomes.
