I grew up and studied in the beautiful city of Dresden and spent the summers in northern Minnesota, where I taught at the German full immersion program offered by Concordia College. After receiving the German Magister, I joined the German Department of the Ohio State University where I completed an M.A. and a Ph.D. in German Literature. In my research I am particularly interested in second language acquisition, holistic approaches to language teaching, technology in the foreign language classroom, migration studies, and the portrayal of religious minorities in fictional writing.

In 2014 I joined the German faculty at the University of Colorado in Boulder to teach language and pedagogy courses and coordinate the first- and second-year German language program. I plan and teach German language courses with an intercultural perspective and inclusive, interactive, and interdisciplinary focus. I also train new teachers and offer workshops for high school and college language instructors. Through my work as GEM, I aim to contribute to the linguistic and cultural diversity of the U.S. and to strengthen K-12 German language programs whose success directly impact the future of collegiate programs.
