Unleash your creativity and participate in our photo contest, inspired by Caspar David Friedrich’s iconic painting, “Der Wanderer über dem Nebelmeer” (The Wanderer above the Sea of Fog) from 1818.

How to Participate:

Pick up a cutout postcard of Caspar David Friedrich’s painting “Der Wanderer über dem Nebelmeer” (1818) at the Goethe-Institut Chicago to photograph in front of scenery of your choice. If you don't have the cutout postcard, download the template here: 

Submit Your Entry:

Instagram: Post your photo on Instagram and tag @goetheinstitut.chicago. If your account is private, you can also submit via direct message.
Email: Alternatively, you can email your photo to socialmedia-chicago@goethe.de.
Deadline: All entries must be submitted by November 15, 2024.

The winning entry will receive a book package on Caspar David Friedrich, hand picked by Dr. Leonhard Emmerling, art histroian and Director of the Goethe-Institut Chicago.

Usage Rights: By submitting your photo, you grant the Goethe-Institut Chicago the right to share your entry on our website and social media channels.

Selection: Entries will be judged based on creativity, originality, and how well they capture the spirit of Friedrich's masterpiece in a modern context. 
Only winners will be notified. Winner will be contacted directly by the Goethe-Institut Chicago and will be annouced via Instagram between November 16, 2024 and December 05, 2024.

Eligibility: Participants must reside in the United States to be eligible for the contest.

The exhibition "The Chicago Center for Caspar David Friedrich Studies Library" at the Goethe-Institut Chicago is now on display through December 05 and accompanied by a series of talks.
