David Lyon is Director of the Surveillance Studies Centre, Chair in Surveillance Studies, and Professor of Sociology and Law at Queen's University in Canada. From 2008 to 2015, he was the principal investigator of The New Transparency Project, which culminated in a book: Transparent Lives: Surveillance in Canada (Athabasca University Press, 2014). Lyon has been working on surveillance since the 1980s, has published extensively on the subject, and has been involved in many debates over information politics and policy in Canada and around the world. He is a founding editor of the e-journal Surveillance & Society and has particular research interests in national ID cards, aviation security, surveillance ethics, and in promoting the cross-disciplinary and international study of surveillance. Other recent books include Surveillance After Snowden (Polity Press, 2015), Liquid Surveillance (with Zygmunt Bauman; Polity Press 2012), and Identifying Citizens: ID Cards as Surveillance (Polity Press, 2009).
Andree Korpys and Markus Löffler form an artist duo based in Berlin and Bremen, Germany. Since the early 1990s, they have addressed how reality is constructed and staged in media images. Their artistic-investigative works focus in particular on locations, structures, and representations of power in architecture, hierarchies, and control mechanisms. Korpys/Löffler combine fictional, biographical, and documentary material in videos, drawings, photographs, and complex installations to devise a succession of narrative threads and visual references as an alternative to those dictated by mass media and official image campaigns. They have taught in the Fine Arts Department at the University of the Arts in Bremen since 2009.
