Saigon Chamber Music is the first summer music festival and training with a focus on ensemble music in Viet Nam. Once a year, it provides a perfect chance for young musicians to get away from the pressure of their solo repertoire and venture into the art of ensemble music, where they connect with others, reflect on their musical voice, and develop their musicianship.

For a week in August, they get to explore different aspects of music and be inspired by the wonderful, world-acclaimed musicians from UK, Norway, Germany, US (and still counting), in a relaxed and playful yet constructive environment to maximise the participants’ learning experience. The every day schedule is full with ensemble rehearsals, coached sessions, self-practice, group activities, technique studio classes, masterclasses, workshops and talks. The intensity is intended to maintain focus, as well as to leverage knowledge and understanding; yet the variety of activities, the scene changes, the flow of communications, and especially the inspirations from the wonderful faculty helps maintain the energy level and excitement.

Season 4 of Saigon Chamber Music will happen from 5th to 13th August 2017, hosted by Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, in association with the Goethe-Institut Viet Nam and Transposition Programme. SCM 2017 faculty includes the 4 members of Notos Quartet from Germany: Sindri Lederer (violin), Andrea Burger (viola), Philip Graham (cello) and Antonia Köster (piano). British Vietnamese pianist Tra Nguyen will also join to work with the piano team.

30 young musicians have been selected for SCM 2017 through a video audition; they are put in small ensembles of 2 to 7 members and get their repertoire during the first week of July to start rehearsing. A special feature of SCM 2017 is the series of workshops at 4:30pm everyday, from 6th to 10th of August, entitled “Daily Musical Talk.” In these workshop the Notos artists will talk about styles and schools in musical interpretations and other topics observed from their daily work with the young musicians.

To conclude this intensive week, the young musicians will perform a special concert, the 2017 edition of the Young Virtuosi Concert. It's the pinnacle of Saigon Chamber Music where all positive energies in music converge; the young musicians play their heart out and relive every exciting moment of the week, being inspired by their and friends’ improvements. The concert features a rich and diverse playbill, spanning many centuries from the Baroque time to the late 20th century. You’ll hear music by the world famous composers from  Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Vivaldi to the contemporary voices and even the theme from the blockbuster sequence James Bond.

The Young Virtuosi Concert 2017 will start at 8pm Friday 11 August, at the Concert Hall of the HCMC Conservatory of Music, 112 Nguyễn Du, District 1.
