Belita Andre is a Johannesburg-based poet, copywriter and writing facilitator. Although South African born, the writer is of Namibian and Nigerian descent. This has been the grounding perspective from which her work stems. She is co-founder of
Death in the Afternoon, a literature house that offers writing, workshop and performance experiences for students and adults around Johannesburg. Belita has collaborated with
Makers Valley, MAC Cosmetics and
Jameson SA. The writer has also contributed poems to the colouring book and anthology:
Colour Me Melanin. Some of her performances include the
Basha Uhuru Freedom Festival, Izimbongi Festival, Turbine Art Fair and virtual exhibitions at the
2020 National Arts Festival (in collaboration with
Sheimpressions and
The Radioactive Poetry Hub).
