Marketing Specialist

The Goethe-Institut South Africa is looking for a dedicated staff member for the Information Department (75%) from the 01.09.2024 for a limited period until 31.08.2026.

The Goethe–Institut is the globally active cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany. We promote knowledge of the German language outside Germany and foster international cultural cooperation. In addition, we convey a comprehensive image of Germany by providing information on cultural, social and political life. The Goethe-Institut Johannesburg is the Regional Office responsible for the coordination of the work of 15 Goethe-Instituts in Sub-Saharan Africa.

As a marketing specialist, you will be the architect of our communication strategies, the storyteller of our brand, and the voice that reaches to connect, engage, and inspire our diverse audiences. Your expertise will not only promote the Goethe-Institut's mission but also drive the growth of our cultural and educational programs through innovative marketing and impactful communications. As MARKETING SPECIALIST

your area of responsibility essentially includes:
  • Conceptualize, develop, and coordinate comprehensive marketing and communication strategies for the Goethe-Institut South Africa.
  • Develop and manage comprehensive marketing strategies, including the ideation, coordination, and supervision of diverse advertising and editorial content across print, digital, and audiovisual platforms. Lead the collaboration with service providers, influencers, media partners, and stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of marketing initiatives.
  • Audience development to expand the Goethe-Institut’s reach and impact.
  • Branding and promotion of events and events coverage, including creation of audio and visual content.
  • Conception and implementation of innovative relationship management strategies to foster engagement and collaboration.
  • Cooperation and partnership development (media partnerships, content sharing) in cooperation with the Social Media Specialist.
  • Analysis, monitoring and quality assurance of marketing and communications.
  • Technical consulting and training of colleagues in the region.
  • Digital asset management (DAM).
  • Evaluation of access numbers, compilation of statistics and reports.
  • Manage the Goethe-Institut South Africa social media presence as substitute for Social Media Specialist.

Your profile:

  • Professional Experience: Training or studies in marketing, communications or a related field as well as relevant professional experience, preferably in the cultural or educational sector.
  • Strategic Skills: Ability to develop and implement marketing strategies that align with the institute's mission and goals.
  • Analytical Skills: Proficiency in analyzing market trends, audience behavior, and campaign performance.
  • Creative Skills: Experience in creating compelling advertising materials, both print and digital, and managing audiovisual content production.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent copywriting skills and verbal communication, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with digital asset management systems, technical consulting, and training. Willingness and ability to familiarize yourself with complex and bureaucratic administrative regulations and directives, most of which are only available in German.
  • Project Management: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and service providers.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong relationship management and collaboration skills to develop partnerships and work effectively with teams.
  • Language Proficiency: Excellent knowledge of English, language skills in German and French are an advantage.
  • Cultural Competence: Sensitivity to and understanding of cultural nuances, with a commitment to fostering cultural diversity and inclusion.
