Project Coordinator for the project “African Feminisms – Rights, Representation and Resources”

Freelance Position - Scope of work 50%


The Goethe-Institut South Africa (Johannesburg) is looking for a committed freelance project coordinator for the period from 01.09.2024 until 31.12.2026 for the regional project ‘African Feminisms - Rights, Representation and Resources’, funded by the German Foreign Ministry and implemented as part of the House of African Feminisms project. The scope of working time is of 50 % = 20 hours per week.

Its activities in this region have a special focus on strengthening the pan-African dialogue, and on promoting mobile access to information and education.

THE PROJECT

The concept of the project ‘African Feminisms - Rights, Representation and Resources’ is based on the guidelines of German feminist foreign policy and aims to examine African feminisms on the continent and in Germany, to apply feminist practice in the form of qualification programmes and to open up new perspectives through thematic and artistic work. The project is an initiative of the Goethe-Institut project ‘House of African Feminisms’.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • support the project manager in the conceptualisation and implementation of specific activities and programmes as outlined in the project concept note,
  • support the project manager in research tasks about feminist theories, discourses, organisations and experts on the African continent,
  • support in grant management: prepare calls and contracts, establish a network and communication with grantees, oversee reporting deadlines, review reports etc.
  • support the project manager in Monitoring and Evaluation of the project,
  • prepare meetings with the advisory board and the project team; coordinate availability, send invites, write and send minutes,
  • assist the project manager in regular reporting to the donor (narrative reports),
  • handling administrative procedures; prepare contracts, account assignments, procurement notes
  • assist in the coordination and implementation of communication and public relations strategy,
  • candidates will need to agree with feminist ethos.
Requirements
  • Cultural studies, cultural project management degree OR Minimum of four (4) years relevant working experience
  • Experience working on cultural and educational programmes (civil society),
  • Experience in administration, especially of cultural projects
  • Knowledge of feminist networks in civil society and/or culture [RS1] and discourses on the African continent are an advantage
  • Highly proficient with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Excellent written skills in English are necessary, being able to speak German and/or French is a major advantage
  • Strong project management, coordination, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure and willingness to travel
  • Flawless attention to detail
  • Ensure adequate work environment (internet, equipment etc.) in order to be fully operational.
