Kham!! Cartoonist Extraordinaire - Telling Stories
With or without a script, how do you develop a good comic? This is what the short video by Msanii Kimani wa Wanjiru is about, who takes on these questions and comes to answers in an interview with Kenyan comic artist Kham aka James Kamawira. Initially, the interview offers a little insight into the childhood and beginnings of the comic artist, who discovered his penchant for art at a young age and learned to draw mainly by copying existing comics. These, but above all the famous comic strip "Tintin", provided him with the inspiration for his very own comic strip hit called Bongoman, which forms a kind of African version of this. His career began with magazines that allowed him to publish his comics, which he has done continuously since 1989. His comics vary thematically from a citizen of the world dealing with current affairs to a children's comic. Ultimately, Kham goes into the intricacies of storytelling and the importance of character to a successful comic. To this end, he not only explains important tips for writing a story, but also explains his own personal way of story creation.
