About the Artist

Agus Suwage enjoys engaging with issues of ideology, politics, religion, lifestyles and other matters which are a part of every day discussions. Suwage, who graduated from Graphic Design at ITB (Bandung Institute of Technology), uses photographic imagery as his starting point – whether they are his own photographs or those taken from the mass media. Suwage then re-mixes these images through drawing, painting or digital manipulation. He inserts elements of cynicism, irony and parody through his artistic interventions and thus encourages us to deconstruct various signs and stigmas which have long been accepted in our daily life.
