Beuys and a Coyote: The Silent Relationship depicts the long relationship of Wantanee Siripattananuntakul, with Beuys, a grey African beo bird. The bird has the same name of the famous German artist, Joseph Beuys (1921-1986). The similarity in names is the foundation of the intersection of meaning which enlivens this work. Wantanee has worked with Beuys (the beo bird) since September 2013 – when it was one month old. Every day, he would make some time to establish a close relationship with the bird: involving it in a number of activities which referred to the various arts projects of Joseph Beuys. He played Ja Ja Ja Ja Ja Ne Ne Ne Ne Ne (1968) for it and taught the bird to utter a few sentences. In this video, we can see a number of interactions between the artist wearing a coyote-shaped hat and the bird. The two are connected through a unique choreography.

About the Artist

Wantanee Siripattananuntakul uses all aspects of herself in her art making. The starting point for her works is her critique of the political economy, which she offers in a humourous and satirical manner. She is aware of her privileged position as an artist and often uses it to laugh at her self and her social context, including her life in the arts and its various moral codes.
