Montreal, Canada A Garden by Monosourcil
Maxilie Martel-Racicot is a versatile artist from Montreal. Her training has taken her through various fields of art, including visual (drawings, sculptures) and performative arts. Known in the street art scene under the pseudonym Monosourcil, she focuses mainly on murals, but her works also include wheatpastes and hand-painted stickers. She finds street art particularly direct and liberating compared to other art forms. In a cartoonish manner, she uses her murals to embody her view of the individual in Western society.
Her figures, whether depicted individually or in groups, radiate insecurity, tenseness or annoyance. Whether as business people, workers, animals (especially cats), monsters, robots or idiosyncratic undergrowth - the rapturous anxiety of their faces provokes the audience. As part of our Flower Power series, we have selected a fascinating image: a wild garden populated with a variety of flowers and mushrooms. The faces of the plants convey a rather mediocre, floral mood, but the contrast with the vibrant green, purple and red hues creates an amusing effect.
