The ultimate goal for any film is to find an audience, and all roads lead to distribution. Regardless of your release strategy, you need a distribution chain to get your film onto a screen, be it at festivals, in a cinema or into people's homes.

But what is the best way to do that, what are the different strategies and offers? Which festival is the right one to premiere my film, what comes after that and what is the difference between a distributor and a sales agent, and how do I work with both as a filmmaker and producer?

In this seminar, the experienced distribution specialist Hanne Biermann will guide us through this labyrinth of questions and discuss different strategies with the participants.

Hanne Biermann started as an apprentice at the renowned German publishing house Suhrkamp and graduated from Bauhaus University Weimar with a degree in media studies. She continued her career towards film, working for the DOK Leipzig festival and in art house cinema.
In March 2019 she joined Deckert Distribution as festival manager. Since then she is a regular guest at film festivals and markets around the World, including serving as member of the Doc Alliance Award Jury and being an Thessaloniki-Locarno Industry Academy alumni.
In addition she works as a freelance film journalist.
Hanne is based in Leipzig.  This seminar is part of a three-part online seminar series that takes place as part of the cooperation between the DAE and the Goethe-Institut in Exile.
