The event series Literatures in Exile is dedicated to the work, experiences and realities of authors who have had to leave their home countries due to war or political repression and now live in Berlin or Germany. In regularly held evening events, two authors of different origins present their texts and discuss their experiences of exile as well as the opportunities and challenges in the (German) literary scene.

The focus is on communicating and analysing the writers' artistic positions and works. In addition, structural issues will also be discussed, such as the connection to literary and artistic scenes, language and translation challenges or the examination of identity and artistic creation in a new environment.

The readings will take place in the original language of the texts, accompanied by a translation into German and/or English. The moderated artist talks will be held in German or English.

The Lettrétage in Berlin's Kunsthaus ACUD serves as the main venue alongside other stages in Berlin.

The Literatures in Exile series is sponsored by the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion.
