About the festival
Stories of migration characterize our societies in the 21st century. People from different cultural backgrounds are searching for belonging and acceptance of their identity and roots. Cultural diversity is celebrated on the one hand, but at the same time new social boundaries are emerging. Increasingly, the idea of a radically open society is being overshadowed by nationalist narratives - on both sides of the Atlantic.
With the “Longing/Belonging” festival, the Goethe-Institut presents artistic positions from Germany and North America. The program includes literature, performances, films and encounters with German and North American artists. From mid-September to November 2024, events will take place at the Goethe-Institut's North American locations.
