Screening of the multi-award-winning animated feature, co-presented with Amant

The German Film Office is pleased to announce the multi-award-winning animated feature Fritzi: A Revolutionary Tale as its film selection for the November session of Kids Kino, co-presented with Amant. Please note that this screening will take place offsite at Amant – Géza, 306 Maujer Street, in Brooklyn.
Register Unless otherwise stated, all films in this series are suitable for general audiences. We recommend Fritzi: A Revolutionary Tale for children 8 years old and above.

Told from the perspective of a twelve-year-old girl, the film recounts the story of the Peaceful Revolution in 1989, a series of non-violent demonstrations that led to the opening of East Germany’s borders with the West, which enabled the fall of the Berlin Wall.

In her East German hometown, Fritzi lovingly takes care of her best friend Sophie’s little dog Sputnik, while Sophie’s family is on summer vacation in Hungary. When Sophie doesn’t come back to school that fall, Fritzi and Sputnik set out in search of her. This leads Fritzi through a playful adventure into a street demonstration and towards a heavily guarded boarder that she crosses with Sputnik.

Fritzi: A Revolutionary Tale is based on the children’s book of the same name by Hanna Schott and Gerda Raidt, and reveals the difficulties faced by families in authoritarian regimes.

Winner of the 2019 German Film Critics’ Award for Best Children’s Film, among many others.

“[Fritzi] does a great job of giving kids a lesson to be remembered: how a non-violent protest can cause substantial, long-lasting social and political change – and how the voice of the many can disrupt the power of the few.” (Ştefan Dobroiu, Cineuropa)
