KINO! Film Salon is a monthly online club to discuss films from Germany.

How it works: Each month we choose a German film or series currently available to stream on U.S. platforms, watch it independently, and come together for a hosted conversation with other fans of German film.
Register For our March session, we picked Hans-Christian Schmid’s Requiem, a carefully calibrated study of an epileptic young woman from a conservative Christian family who finds her faith tested when university brings her a newfound taste of personal freedom. She soon finds herself confronted with the prospect of demonic intervention at play. As richly creative and theologically fraught as Requiem is, the film is perhaps most memorable for Sandra Hüller’s performance in her first major role.

Requiem won a German Film Award in Silver and the Berlinale’s FIPRESCI Award, among others. Sandra Hüller received multiple accolades for her performance, including a German Film Award and a Silver Bear for Best Actress at the Berlinale.

Hosted by Jim Kolmar

Jim programs for SXSW and Trinidad & Tobago Film Festival, and was a founding committee member of Festival Internacional de Cine Tulum (FICTU). He has participated in numerous international festival juries, panels, and committees.

KINO! Film Salon is a production of Telescope Film, in partnership with the German Film Office.
