KINO! Film Salon is a monthly online club to discuss films from Germany.

How it works: Each month we choose a German film or series currently available to stream on U.S. platforms, watch it independently, and come together for a hosted conversation with other fans of German film.
Register For our June session, we picked Boris Kunz’s mystery/science-fiction thriller Paradise. In near-future Berlin, Aeon is a giant biotech conglomerate that provides a medical service for people who wish to “donate” years of their lives to others. When Aeon employee Max and his wife Elena lose everything in a fire, they are forced to pay their insurmountable debts with the only resource they have left: time. Paradise proposes a fantastical premise, but like all good sci-fi, its proximity to our current reality means we never quite shake off that discomfiting feeling that this potential future may be closer than we think.

Paradise premiered at the Munich International Film Festival and was nominated for an Irish Film and Television Award for its visual effects.

Hosted by Jim Kolmar

Jim programs for SXSW and Trinidad & Tobago Film Festival, and was a founding committee member of Festival Internacional de Cine Tulum (FICTU). He has participated in numerous international festival juries, panels, and committees.
