Register For our August session, we picked Sandra Nettelbeck’s nuanced romantic comedy Mostly Martha. Martina Gedeck shines as Martha, the fiercely independent head chef of an acclaimed restaurant who finds herself the reluctant guardian of her 8-year-old niece following a family tragedy. Things are further complicated by the arrival of Mario, an assertively charming Italian chef who forces Martha to confront and understand what really matters in life.

Martina Gedeck’s performance in Mostly Martha earned her Best Actress awards at the 2002 German Film Awards and the 2003 German Film Critics’ Awards.
