The Gods Are Strange
The Goethe-Institut Nigeria was organising a play followed by a panel discussion in Agbara and Jos as part of the Kultursymposium Weimar 2023.
The Gods Are Strange is a play set in ancient Africa. It tells the story of the people of the Odudu Kingdom, a kingdom that was once fertile and prosperous, but is now ravaged by famine. The oracle appoints three young men to go on an expedition to find a solution to the land’s predicament. However, the people of the kingdom and their king are surprised by the choice of these young men – a blind man, a dancer, and a warrior.
Their journey showcases the themes of diversity and inclusion, teamwork, and respect for one another. The play focuses on the adventures of the young men during the expedition and the lessons they learned at the end.
The play is based on a book by Bukola Ayinde, founder of the Diary of a Special Needs Mum Initiative under P4:13 Foundation. She is a lawyer, storyteller, film producer, and disability inclusion advocate.
