Artist Talk
Hamburg based visual artist Moshtari Hilal was one of the international guests who took part in the Simurgh Festival. During her time, she held a workshop and delivered an artist talk.
In the workshop, she had a discussion with members of the Afghan community where she introduced concepts of Afghan art, unpacked the politics of representation and shared the work of prominent artists working in the diaspora.
At her artist talk, held at Khoj International Artists’ Association, she was in conversation with curator and artist Shuddhabrata Sengupta. Moshtari spoke about using subjective reality as part of her work, and how her own life is documented in her art. She also discussed her work as co-founder of AVAH (Afghan Visual Arts & History) and shared the need for a collective space for Afghan artists around the world.
