Goethe-Institut Äthiopien in partnership with the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences (EAS), the Children’s Science Center, the Juba Film Festival and their network of public, private, and international schools will host the Science Film Festival 2024 from 7 October till 20 December 2024 across Ethiopia and Juba, South Sudan. With the theme of the festival on its 20th anniversary in mind, the festival calls upon it’s audience to actively take part in using circular economy for climate protection.

Public and semi-public screenings of up to 25 films appropriate for young students, youth and the public will be held throughout schools, institutes for higher education and science across Addis Abeba and selected cities in Ethiopia. The films will also be showcased during the Juba Film Festival in December 2024. Although Addis Abeba will be the primary location for the festival, programmes outside of the capital will be organized wherever possible. To ensure accessibility to a wider audience across the country, the selected films selected will be available online streaming.

Pre-Jury

Over 30 pre-jury members with expertise in science education and science communication in the participating countries and in-depth knowledge of the local target audience are closely involved in the selection process. All films are translated and synchronized or subtitled into local languages where necessary to offer access without language barriers.
