3rd Edition
The third edition of the Science Film Festival was offi cially inaugurated on November 6, 2023, featuring screenings of the fi lms “African Voices for Africa’s Forests” and “Faith for Climate.” Prior to this, on October 23, in collaboration with the Austrian Cooperation, an event titled “Towards the Science Film Festival” was conducted, showcasing the short fi lms “Microbiobiome” and “Soup Connection.” Both screenings took place at the Garden of the Mozambican-German Cultural Center. The opening event on November 6 was graced by the presence of the Ambassador of Spain to Mozambique and Eswatini, Álvaro Alabart. Students and regular attendees of Kino Club sessions were present at both events.

The in-person screenings of selected science and educational entertainment fi lms continued until November 22, 2023, organized in partnership with our local collaborators: The Mafalala Museum, the Community Association for Human Development (ASSCODECHA/Chamanculo), Ntsindya - Municipal Cultural Center (Xipmanine), the Institute of Arts and Culture (ISARC/Liberdade), and the 25 de Junho Primary School (25 de Junho/Choupal).

Additionally, screenings were held at the Portuguese School of Mozambique, targeting science students and the cinema department of the private secondary-level educational institution, which has been a longstanding partner of our initiative. In total, the Science Film Festival welcomed 248 students, establishing itself as the largest and most extensive scientifi c event in Mozambique.

Pre-Jury

Over 30 pre-jury members with expertise in science education and science communication in the participating countries and in-depth knowledge of the local target audience are closely involved in the selection process. All films are translated and synchronized or subtitled into local languages where necessary to offer access without language barriers.
