Stereotypes at Home

The typical mindset that assumes that the traditional social role of women is predominantly in charge of the household while still taking care of the children, still prevalent in Asian culture and also influenced by cultural belief systems of certain communities, and those of similar backgrounds. The gender disparity in the STEM field that we see today starts very much in childhood days of most households. What is rather unfortunate is that women themselves often are the source for shaping their daughter’s mindset into something that has a long lasting impact in terms of their career choices and what happens with it. The story here depicts common scenarios in most households, still soaked in typical mentality and mindset. The simple story helps to reshape the mind of small girls when they are treated indifferently at home when compared to their male siblings. While they may not understand the implications of such differences in the treatment when young, the gaps only continue to grow as they age and tend to hold a long lasting effect in their career choices; and, even if they happen to be in STEM career, they end up giving up after some point due to multiple roles and responsibility that comes with it.
