Nicolás Lynch Gamero has a Ph.D. in Sociology from the New School for Social Research of New York and a Masters in Social Sciences from FLACSO-México. He is a full professor of Sociology at the National University of San Marcos, where he received the Scientific Merit Award in 2004, and where he is currently chair of the Graduate Centre in the School of Social Sciences. He has been visiting professor at Johns Hopkins University, the New School for Social Research, the Wisconsin-Madison University, and the Woodrow Wilson International Centre for Scholars. He has been president of the Colegio de Sociólogos del Perú, and minister for education, as well as political adviser for the Presidency of the Republic and ambassador for Peru in Argentina. He has published a large number of articles in academic journals and written several books, the latest on populism and democracy. Professor Gamero often publishes scientific articles and political essays and is a well-known commentator in the Peruvian media.
