Ailton Krenak was born in 1953 in the state of Minas Gerais, in the Rio Doce region. At the age of 17 he moved with his family to the state of Paraná, where he learnt to read and write. He became a graphic producer and journalist. Since the 1980s he has been supporting the Indigenous movement with his original thinking.
His book Ideas to Postpone the End of the World contains eight texts in which the environmental activist and philosopher analyses and comments on the escalating environmental catastrophe. He was awarded the Order of Cultural Merit (Orden del Mérito Cultural) in 2008, as well as an honorary doctorate by the Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora in 2016.
