Austin Bukenya is a first-class honors Linguistics Language and Literature graduate from the University of East Africa. He also studied Orature and French at Universities in Uganda (Makerere), Kenya (Kenyatta), Madagascar and the UK. He has been teaching Literature, Languages and Drama in schools and universities since 1968. In 2009, he was African Studies Visiting Professor at Bayreuth University in Germany. A widely published literary and cultural critic, poet, novelist and dramatist, Bukenya is also a stage and screen actor. He was for many years Director of Kenyatta University’s Creative and Performing Arts Centre. He is a founding Associate Member of FEMRITE, the Uganda Women Writers Association. He writes the long-running Saturday Nation column, “Reflections of a Scholar”.
