Neue Produktion vom chilenischen Theatermacher Guillermo Calderón
Drei Welten treffen aufeinander: eine dysfunktionale Theaterbühne, ein kleines, schlecht ausgestattetes Fernsehstudio und die Welt der Fahrrad- und Motorradkuriere auf den Straßen von Santiago de Chile oder andernorts. Die Gesellschafts- und Mediensatire von Guillermo Calderón zeigt ein marginalisiertes, gesellschaftlich wirkungsloses Theater, ein auf dumpfe Talkformate reduziertes Billigfernsehen und den Überlebenskampf von Menschen in prekären Arbeitsverhältnissen. Er wolle mit dem Stück zeigen, „wie Menschen zu Faschist*innen werden, ohne es zu bemerken“, so Calderón, Chiles derzeit prominentester Dramatiker und Regisseur. Sein Wirken ist eng mit „Teatro a Mil“ und Carmen Romero Quero, einer der drei diesjährigen Goethe-Medaille-Preisträgerinnen, verknüpft, da die Stiftung viele von Calderóns Projekten produziert. Carmen Romero Quero ist in diesem Jahr eine der drei Preisträgerinnen der Goethe-Medaille.

VACA New production by Chilean theatremaker Guillermo Calderón
Three worlds meet: a dysfunctional theatre stage, a small, poorly-equipped TV studio and the world of bicycle and motorcycle couriers in precarious working conditions on the streets of Santiago de Chile or elsewhere. The satire of media and society is about a marginalised, now socially ineffective theatre, cheap television that has been reduced to dull talkshow formats and people with a minimal existence struggling to survive.
The underlying idea of the project is to show “how people turn into fascists without noticing,” says Guillermo Calderón, Chile’s most prominent dramatist, director and screenwriter. His work is directly linked to the activities of the foundation ‘Teatro a Mil’ initiated by Carmen Romero Quero, which produces Calderón’s projects and is organising one of the most important international theatre festivals. Carmen Romero Quero is one of the three of this year’s winners of the Goethe Medal.
