The Theater Exchange Budapest-Jena aims to democratize theater structures by fostering international artistic dialogue between Örkény Színház in Budapest and Theaterhaus Jena. Premiering in Spring 2025, the project features two plays reflecting historical and contemporary challenges in Hungary and East Germany. Selected novels by Andrea Tompa and László Krasznahorkai explore identity and societal struggles. Common dramaturgical supervision highlights parallels between the works. A shared stage design underscores historical connections and facilitates sustainable coproduction. Workshops, readings, and discussions deepen cultural understanding. The exchange promotes mutual learning, serving as a model for international cultural collaboration. By embracing linguistic and cultural diversity, the project fosters artistic growth and resilience against nationalist ideologies, envisioning a vibrant European cultural landscape shaped by dialogue and collaboration.
