The exhibition project Le Partage du Travail Sensible: Landscape is a partnership between Dereck Marouço and Laboratoire Kontempo. Set to open in November 2025 in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, the project is inspired by the Congolese artistic trope of partagisme — mode of artistic production that emerged around 2017 with ties to the Academy of Fine Arts of Kinshasa, in which two or more actors contribute to the same artistic object — and by the recent international exhibitions that sought to overcome the single authorship fetish rooted in the Western artistic canon. The exhibition centers artworks produced collectively referring or contributing to the theme of landscape.
Contrary to the XIV Century Dutch-born artistic trope of landscape, the selected artistic positions do not depict but rather describe and show the processes of the earth and its constituents, as well as anthropogenic processes and their agents. The gathered works portray the landscape in its featured elements, rather than in its stillness and colonial features.
Focusing on collective production as a critical modus, Le Partage du Travail Sensible: Landscape opposes the private property regime in which the land is commonly managed under capitalism. Landscape alteration is always a collective process as it is always shared by the subjects that are part of it.
