In the 1960s, Ivry-sur-Seine - a suburb in the southeast of Paris - became the site of a pioneering social housing project in which architect and urban planner Renée Gailhoustet, together with Jean Renaudie, designed an architecture deeply rooted in the socialist values of communal living and social justice.
With the support of the Goethe-Institut, the Berlin-based collective Urban Fragment Observatory will conduct an artistic investigation in Ivry-Sur-Seine to capture the life of the neighborhood and its inhabitants. The project will be carried out in collaboration with the local initiatives Jardin à tous les étages Ivry and Arch'Ivry and will involve residents of all ages in the realization of short films.
The final result will be a sound and video installation that will be shown to the public during the Journées du Patrimoine in Ivry-sur-Seine in September and will later be shown in Berlin. The overall goal of the project is to be inspired by such remarkable urban spaces that can help us show ways out of the monotony of our built environment.
