Translators-in-Residence programme
In association with the Alfred Toepfer Stiftung F.V.S. (Alfred Toepfer Foundation) and the Kulturstiftung des Freistaates Sachsen (Cutural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony), the European Translators-in-Residence programme offers residential fellowships for professional translators specialising in the translation of German literature.
Conditions of Funding
Professional translators who translate German literature into another language.
The residency programme enables you to concentrate on a current translation project in the field of German-language literature.
Our project partners provide living and working space for this purpose:
The scholarship amounts to a one-off payment of 1,500 euros (plus 250 euros for catering costs for a stay in Dresden-Hellerau).
Travelling expenses will be borne by the project partners.

- Scholarship holders' house of the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony in Dresden-Hellerau,
- Elbehaus of the Alfred Toepfer Foundation in Hamburg,
- Seminar Centre Gut Siggen of the Alfred Toepfer Foundation.

- At least two substantial translations already in print
- A definitive contract from a publisher for the translation you propose to work on
- Priority will be given to translation projects in the field of contemporary German-language literature.
- Completed application form, available on the Goethe Application Portal, including CV and list of publications
- Publisher’s contract
