DRESDEN-HELLERAU

The accommodation provided by the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony is situated within the grounds of the Hellerau Festival Theatre, a protected historic site in north Dresden with good public transport links to the city centre. The award-holder will be housed in a 50 sqm apartment on the first floor of a summer residence originally built in 1910 and totally renovated in 1996 (please note that there is no lift). The apartment offers one bedroom, a living room giving access to a balcony, plus a kitchen and a bathroom. An internet connection is provided, and a photocopier will be available in the Cultural Foundation’s offices. As a university city Dresden offers numerous libraries open to the general public. The Sächsische Landes- und Universitätsbibliothek (State and University Library of Saxony) with its c. 8.5 million items is one of Germany’s largest scholarly libraries.

We offer four six- to eight-week stays in Dresden-Hellerau from 15 April to 29 November 2024.  

ELBEHAUS (HAMBURG)

The Toepfer Foundation's Elbehaus was reopened at the beginning of 2023 after a lengthy renovation phase. The house on Elbchaussee is now being used as part of a residential scholarship that allows up to three scholarship holders to spend between two and six months studying at the same time. The scholarship holders are given the opportunity to develop their creative work while being integrated into the cultural, academic and social life of Hamburg.

The translator will be provided with a private, furnished accommodation unit in the Elbehaus. The common rooms of the house can be used communally during the stay or individually by arrangement. In addition to the opportunity for undisturbed work and activity, the communal living together of the scholarship holders is intended to promote interdisciplinary exchange, dialogue and encounters.

We offer an eight-week stay at the Elbehaus from 1 May to 30 June 2024.  

GUT SIGGEN

Siggen is located 20 kilometres east of Oldenburg in Holstein, 70 kilometres north of Lübeck and 70 kilometres east of Kiel. In addition to the manor house and the seminar building, there is a large barn and other farm buildings on the estate. The Baltic Sea beach, which offers good bathing opportunities, is just a 15-minute walk away. The Alfred Toepfer Foundation F.V.S. has been using the seminar centre for its activities since 1970. Since 2007, a state-of-the-art seminar building has completed the architecturally attractive ensemble.

The translator is provided with a flat with cooking facilities, bedroom, study and bathroom. Depending on availability, the library in the manor house and a study in the seminar building can also be used. If required, it is possible to print documents. In the case of parallel events in the seminar building, the translator can take part in the joint meals.

We offer a six-week stay in Siggen from 20 June to 7 August 2024.
