„Purgatory in Ingolstadt“ – Kammerspiele Production Travels to Buenos Aires

(24 May 2014) Premiere for Be my Guest, the name of a programme with which the Goethe-Institut allowed one international guest at the Berlin Theatertreffen to invite one of the productions presented there to their own country for the first time. The lucky festival guest was Darío Lopérfido, artistic director of the FIBA international theatre festival in Argentina. He chose the production of Purgatory in Ingolstadt put on by the Münchner Kammerspiele.

Every year at the Berlin Theatertreffen, a jury of theatre critics award the ten “most notable” productions of a season. Lopérfido was in Berlin during the Theatertreffen and saw the plays that had been invited. He also had the opportunity to present his own work and talk about theatre in his country. In the end, he announced the production he selected, a choice that was very difficult to make, as Lopérfido himself admits. Next year, Purgatory in Ingolstadt will be performed at the FIBA in Buenos Aires.
