Theatre for Children and Young People – Goethe-Institut Receives Award

The Goethe-Institut is one of this year’s winners of the ASSITEJ Award. The award honours persons for their many years of dedication and their innovative force in theatre for young audiences. ASSITEJ, the International Association of Theatre for Children and Youth, acknowledges artistic, cultural policy, academic and publicity achievements with the award.

The award was granted in Berlin during Augenblick mal!, the Festival of Theatre for Young Audiences. The president of the Goethe-Institut, Klaus-Dieter Lehmann, accepted the award together with the Thomas Stumpp from the Dance and Theatre Division at the Goethe-Institut Head Office.

Wolfgang Schneider, the chairman of ASSITEJ Germany, held the laudatory speech. “For many years the Goethe-Institut has promoted dialogue between makers of theatre for children and young people around the world,” he said. In this way its network enables cooperation and coproductions that overcome borders.

Other 2015 awardees are the Theater Marabu in Bonn and Petra Fischer, the director of the Junge Schauspielhaus Zürich.

With about 400 members, almost 300 of them theatres, ASSITEJ is the association of professional theatres for children and youth in Germany. It has been granting the ASSITEJ award since 1991.
