German and career
Your path to success!
- Better job opportunities in Germany and German-speaking countries: Knowledge of German opens doors to the labour markets in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, which are known for their strong economies and diverse job opportunities. This is especially true for the engineering, healthcare and technology sectors.
- Competitive advantage in international business: German is an important language in the European economy. Companies with links to the German market are often looking for qualified workers who already speak German well. In the portrait 'How German helped my career', Zoë, Agnieszka and Pierre explain how they have successfully utilised their German language skills.
- Access to high-quality education and training: Germany is known for its excellent education system. However, universities and vocational training programmes often require knowledge of German in the form of a Goethe-Zertifikat. You can find more information about studying in Germany on our Preparing for university page.
- Better career prospects: German-speaking countries such as Germany, Austria and Switzerland have strong economies that need a skilled labour force. Knowledge of German makes it easier to enter these labour markets and is a competitive advantage.
- Access to quality education: Germany is famous for its world-class education. It offers a variety of scholarships and programmes, especially in STEM subjects. German language skills help with university education and careers. With a Goethe-Zertifikat, you can get a place at a German university straight away!
- Improved cognitive skills: Research shows that learning a second language like German improves cognitive skills such as problem solving, creativity and memory. It can also improve academic performance and critical thinking.
- Global networking opportunities: Knowledge of German helps to build a global network. The Goethe-Institut offers internships and cultural events for this purpose. These connections can lead to international career opportunities. Find out more about our German course offers now!
- The Goethe-Institut offers a wide range of materials and workshops for German teachers. There you can learn about the latest teaching methods for German as a foreign language (DaF) and improve your teaching skills.
- Would you like to teach at a Goethe-Institut or in integration courses? The Goethe-Institut's Green Diploma makes it possible and is also recognised by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF).
- The Goethe-Institut promotes cultural exchange and study trips to German-speaking countries. These experiences can deepen your understanding of the language and culture, which enriches your teaching and gives your students a more intensive learning experience.
- Youth unemployment remains one of the biggest challenges across Europe and young people who are not in employment, education or training (NEET) are at risk of losing their skills and self-confidence. The StartNet programme supports young people's transition to work by providing a platform for the exchange of good practice and collective learning between 15 initiatives from 10 countries. This brochure presents different approaches and partnerships aimed at reducing youth unemployment.
- The StartNet handbook is a source of inspiration for professionals and decision-makers who prepare young people to enter the labour market. It provides valuable information and experience for work at all levels and emphasises the importance of multi-stakeholder and cross-sectoral cooperation.
- The "Wake Up Your Vocation" programme provides schools with a handbook of innovative career guidance tools and prepares students for the modern European labour market. By emphasising meaningful and project-based learning, the programme aims to close the gap between education and employment. Policy recommendations have also been developed as part of the project.
- Parcours for the Future (PAFF) supports young people and educational stakeholders in preparing for future trends in the labour market. The main result, an innovative "parcours", enables young people between the ages of 14 and 18 to interactively explore green and digital professions.
