After Comfort - A User's Guide

Public Programme of POWER

CIVA

In the framework of the exhibition POWER and its public program, CIVA hosts the launch of After Comfort: A User’s Guide, a new long-term project by e-flux Architecture in collaboration with Daniel A. Barber, Jeannette Kuo, Ola Uduku, and Thomas Auer that explores the way we have come to live in buildings, and imagines how this life might change to reduce carbon and adapt to unstable climates.

How do we live in buildings? How can our practices and habits within the thermal interior alleviate carbon dependence? Do these practices scale up to make a difference?
Comfort considered in this way enters into dialogue with embodied energy and calls for reuse, as well as reconsiderations of the subject of architecture and its normative conditions. The air-conditioned space of the thermal interior is the space of the norm.
After Comfort: A User’s Guide seeks deviant conditioning strategies.

Participants of the launch at CIVA include Thomas Auer, Nick Axel, Alice Babini, Daniel A. Barber, BC Architects, Kristiaan Borret, Nikolaus Hirsch, Jeannette Kuo, Véronique Patteeuw, and Ola Uduku.

Parallel to the exhibition POWER, the Goethe-Institut Brussels supports the event series POWER Talks - a public program of lectures, roundtable discussions, and film screenings which among others features Thomas Auer, Daniel Barber, BC Architects, Oana Bogdan, Arno Brandlhuber, Koenraad Danneels, Andrés Jaque, Jeanette Kuo, Charlotte Malterre-Barthes, Philippe Rahm, Bas Smets, Paulo Tavares, Ola Uduku and many more.
