THE NEXT ROUND OF OUR DIGITAL CONFERENCE SERIES

Participation for EU officials, ministerial officials from EU member states/accession candidate countries and anyone interested in the topics

Portuguese is a global language today. It is the mother tongue of around 240 million people worldwide and is the official language of several independent states, such as Angola, Brazil, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau. Emigration from Portugal means Portuguese has also become an important minority language and a key part of various cultures in several countries in Western Europe and North America.

‘Portugal and its language in the world’ is the theme of the ‘Europe – Your Languages’ conference series dedicated to Portuguese during the Presidency of the Council of the EU. The topics include the approach to ‘language’ in international organisations, a look at the Portuguese and their language in Luxembourg and the German-Portuguese Society and its efforts to strengthen friendly relations between the countries of Germany and Portugal and their citizens. Finally, it also explores the Portuguese language in literature and the question of how much of the magic of this language is retained after translation (into German)?

Here is the programme in detail:

Portugal and its language in the world.

The event will be broadcast live via Zoom.

Event languages: German, English, Portuguese
