Discussion and readings between the Klopstock prizewinners and Dr Ute Pott

Participation for EU civil servants and ministerial officials from the Permanent Representations of the EU Member States and interested parties.

Together with Minister of State Rainer Robra, Head of the State Chancellery and Minister for Culture, the Goethe-Institut is hosting a reading to mark the 300th anniversary of Klopstock as part of the European Network German programme.

To mark the anniversary year of the important poet and writer of the Enlightenment Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock, there will be a reading in Brussels with three prizewinners from previous years: Angela Steidele (main prize 2023), Marlen Pelny (sponsorship prize 2022) and Annett Gröschner (main prize 2021).

The Klopstock Prize for New Literature is Saxony-Anhalt's highest honour for outstanding literary achievements and has been awarded annually since 2015. The prize is divided into a main prize and a sponsorship prize for up-and-coming authors.

The poet Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock (1724-1803), who was born 300 years ago in Quedlinburg, was the first literary star in the German-speaking world and a new founder of German poetry. He faced up to the competition on the then new free literary market with a clever little work policy. Klopstock sought to revolutionise language - through new grammar and spelling - and poetry - through new rhythms and verse metres.
